No hints, because you guys are too good.
OK, here's one hint if you haven't gotten it already:
(Update: You guys got it in less than a minute! The correct answer is Ford Sierra XR4i. Unlike every other hot wheel/matchbox I own, this one was actually Made in England)

Ford badge and the front end of a Merkur plus the British flag hint so Sierra. Sweet car!

Knew the moment I saw the double spoiler. Sierra

I wish more modern cars did the whole trashy double spoiler thing. It made the Sierra and Escort Cozza look so shite, but so great at the same time, and it's a look I actually really like. The closest modern equivalent would probably be the newest Civic Type R Concept, with its insane spoiler/light cluster thingy:

I just hope it survives production.

You are aware Matt Hardigree had one, even the Yanks on here know it! Its XR4TI, he forgot a letter.

I was going to be a rebel, and say Merkur. Haha.

I have the Hotwheels version of that car (with opening doors) new still in package.

The Merkur XR4TI and Ford Sierra XR4i, while very closely related, are not actually the same car. For one thing, they've different names. ;-)

That has the Merkur grille. I worked for Cosworth at one point, in racing though, they are definitely not the same car.

Yes

Oh, shit, you're right! I completely missed that. I can't claim to have ever worked for Cosworth, but still, I'd have thought I'd have noticed that: I harbour some degree of affection for the old hot Sierras. I think they're a lot better to look at than the Escorts that followed.

That is quite impressive, although mine's the 2 door. Love the advert DOORS OPEN! on the bottom! What year is it from?
![]() 03/19/2014 at 18:10 |

It is from 1997

I was unaware, but that's a Merkur, no?
![]() 03/19/2014 at 18:26 |

Yes the toy has a Merkur grille, they probably didn't want to make two toys so they made it both. Toys are not really reliable for detail unless its a Japanese company known for insane attention to detail.

I knew a guy who had one some time ago. I thought the name sounded pretty exotic as a youngster. Yessir the Zerati by Merkur...
